Deformation and its types, factors affecting plastic deformation , difference between elastic and plastic deformation

                      Deformation

When a crystal or material is subjected to any external forces ,

it undergoes changing (length, shape or volume change) is called

 deformation.

           Types of Deformation

In manufacturing deformation are of two types:-

1- Elastic Deformation

2- Plastic Deformation

1- Elastic Deformation:-

                                               The deformation which completely disappears after removal of external load is called elastic deformation.

2- Plastic Deformation:-

                                              The deformation after the elastic limit of material is known as plastic deformation.

   Plastic deformation of metals may occur in the following ways-

1- By slip 

2- By formation of twins

3- Deviation form regular positions of atoms

4- Breakdown of structure

 Factors Affecting Plastic Deformation

There are following factors which affect the plastic deformation :-

1- Type of stress arrangement

2- Deformation temperature

3- Rate of deformation/ Strain Rate

4- External friction

   

Difference between Elastic Deformation and Plastic Deformation
