Classification of Manufacturing Processes ,Importance of material section, Economic and technological consideration in manufacturing

-: Classification of Manufacturing  Processes :-

Manufacturing processes can be classified as:-
1- Casting/ Foundry/ Moulding Process
2- Forming/ Metal Working Process
3- Fabrication Process
4- Machining/ Material Removing Process

1- Casting:- A Process of pouring molten metal into a mould cavity and allowing it to solidify is known as casting.

2-Forming:-
A process in which the desired size and shape are obtained through the plastic deformation of a material is called forming.
Ex- Rolling , Drawing etc.

3- Fabrication:-
The process which used in joining the two (or more than two) parts to get the complex configuration which is difficult to manufacture is known as fabrication.

Ex- Brazing, Soldering and Gas welding etc.

4- Machining:-
The process in which desired shape and size of the product are obtained through the removal of excess material in the form of small chips is known as machining.
Ex- Sharping , Milling and Grinding etc.

 Importance of Material Section

The importance of material section are given below:-
1- Service requirement
2- Manufacturing requirement
3- Cost of materials
4- Time

Economic and Technological Consideration in Manufacturing

The economic aspects of material selection are as important as the technological consideration of properties and characteristics of materials. The cost and availability of raw and processed materials and manufactured components are not commercially available in the desired shapes, dimensions and quantities , substitutes or additional processing will be required, which can contribute significantly to product cost.

Reliability of both supply and demand affects cost. Most countries import numerous raw materials that are essential for production. In addition , various costs are involved in processing materials by different methods. Some methods require expensive machinery, other require extensive worker and still others require personal with special skill , a high level of formal education or specialized training.
