-: Carburetor :-
The process of formation of a combustible fuel-air mixture by mixing the proper amount of fuel with air before admission to engine cylinder is called carburetion and the device which used for this purpose is called Carburetor .
-: Types / Classification of Carburetor :-
The different types of carburetors are classified on the following basis -
1- On the basis of Arrangement of the Float Chamber :-
According to the arrangement of the float chamber carburetor are of two types -
(i)- Eccentric Carburetor
(ii)- Concentric Carburetor
2- On the basis of the Direction of Air Flow :-
According to the direction of air flow carburetors are of four types :-
(i)- Downdraft Carburetor
(ii)- Side- Draft Carburetor
(iii)- Up-Draft Carburetor
(iv)- Semi- Down Draft Carburetor
3- On the Basis of Number of Units :-
According to the Number of units , carburetor of following three types -
(i)- Single Carburetor
(ii)- Dual Carburetor
(iii)- Four-Barrel Carburetor
4- On the Basis of the Types of Metering System :-
According to the types of metering system carburetors are of following two types -
(i)- Air-Bleed Jet Carburettor
(ii)- Metering Rod Type Carburettor
5- On the basis of the types of Venturi :-
According to the types of the Venturi , carburetors are of following five types -
(i)- Plain Venturi Carburetor
(ii)- Double Venturi Carburetor
(iii)- Vane Venturi Carburetor
(iv)- Nozzle-Bar Venturi Carburettor
(v)- Triple Venturi Carburettor
6- On the basis of the pressure above the Fuel in the Float Chamber :-
According to the pressure above the fuel in the float chamber , carburetors are of following two types -
(i)- Unbalanced Carburetor
(ii)- Balanced Carburetor
7- On the basis of the type of Power System :-
According to the type of power system carburetor are of following two types :-
(i)- Manually Operated Carburetor
(ii)- Vacuum Controlled Carburetor
8- On the basis of the method of Varying the Mixture Strength:-
According to the method of varying the mixture strength , carburetors are of following two types -
(i)- Constant Choke Carburetor
(ii)- Constant Vacuum Carburetor
(i)- Constant Choke Carburetor :-
A carburetor in which , the mixture strength is determined by the varying depression of a fixed tube or venturi , is called constant choke Carburetor .
Ex.- Zenith Carburetor , Solex Carburetor , Carter Carburetor and Stromberg Carburetor .
(ii)- Constant Vacuum Carburetor :-
A carburetor in which , the area of the air passage is varied automatically while the pressure drop is kept approximately constant , is known as constant vacuum Carburetor .
Ex.- SU Carburetor .
